Week 12 Wrap Up

S.Heather

Happy New Year KJHL fans!

The second half of the season has begun and teams are looking to make a push for the playoffs.  The League re-opened on Friday with 2 games on the schedule.

The Arborg Ice Dawgs made a stop in Selkirk to match up with the Fishermen.  The first period was a see-saw battle with Selkirk edging Arborg 11-10 in shots, but neither team could find the net.  The second saw another close period, but this time, Selkirk scored twice, with Arborg answering with only seconds to play in the period.  Selkirk extended their lead in the third, scoring 3 straight goals and jumping out to a 5-1 advantange.  The Ice Dawgs got one back on the powerplay, but the Fish tallied one more and closed out a 6-2 win.

Cory Balcaen led the Fishermen with 2 goals, while both Brandon Paradoski & Cale McBride added a goal and an assist and Tanner MacVicar recorded 2 helpers.  Bretton Fewchuk made 27 saves on 29 shots to record the win.

Cory Kuldys tallied 2 assists to lead the Ice Dawgs.  Travis Schalk made 37 saves in the Arborg goal.

Across the Interlake, the Peguis Juniors paid a visit to the Lundar.  This game saw the Falcons jump out to an early first period lead, scoring 3 unanswered goals.  Peguis held on however and answered back with 2 of their own before the first was over.  The Juniors tied the game up with the lone goal of the second period.  The 3rd period saw Peguis take the lead and not relinquish it, as they added two goals and held on to win 5-3.

The Juniors were led by Presley Kirkness, who recorded 3 assists.  Darryl Flett scored twice, while Tyrell Armstrong added a goal and an assist.  Jarrod Smith started the game, making 3 saves, before giving way to Keifer Tacan who stopped all 17 shots he faced and recorded the win.

Breyden Turner led the Falcons with a goal and 2 assists, while Cody Paul scored once and added an assist.  Randy Quick made 38 saves in the Lundar goal.

Saturday saw the North Winnipeg Satelites and OCN Storm meet for the first of two games on the weekend.  OCN scored the lone first period goal, and held a 1-0 lead.  The 2nd period saw the Storm add 2 more to their total, and lead 3-0 after 40 minutes.  OCN scored on the powerplay in the 3rd, and were cruising with a 4-0 lead before the Satelites answered.  The Storm scored 2 more over the final 5 minutes, with North Winnipeg adding one back.  On home ice, the Storm take the first of the weekend set by a 6-2 margin.

North Winnipeg was led by Matthew Carrey & Kyle Collins who each scored once and added an assist.  They got single goals from Scott Douglas, Keilan Mott & Bryan MacKenzie.  Marc Hildebrand made 23 saves in the game for the win.

Mitchell Tilley led the Storm with a goal and an assist.  Tanner Koroscil recorded 2 more assists for 5 in the weekend.  The Storm got singles from Brandon Sinclair-Martin & Brody Personius.  Luke Penner made 36 saves on 41 shots in the game.
