The second week of KJHL action kicked off on Tuesday after the Thanksgiving weekend. Opening the week saw the St. Malo Warriors pay a visit to the Satelites. North Winnipeg opened the scoring in the first period with only 1:23 remaining, scoring a shorthanded goal. They then added 2 more goals in the second period in the first 7 minutes and held a 3-0 lead going into the 3rd period. North Winnipeg added two more goals, and held a 5-0 advantage, before St. Malo finally broke the shut-out bid late in the 3rd.Grayson Schmidt & Kyle Collins each scored a goal and added an assist, while Ben Ingimundson tallied two assists. Marc Hildebrand made 24 saves on 25 shots to record his second victory of the season.Bryden Johnson scored the lone Warrior goal, on an assist from Justin Collette. Jordan Taylor made 32 saves in the loss. Wednesday night saw the rivalry between the Arborg Ice Dawgs renewed vs the Peguis Juniors. Peguis opened the scoring 9:29 into the game and held that lead until Arborg answered back with just under 3 minutes remaining in the 1st. The teams traded goals twice in the second period, with Arborg scoring and Peguis answering both times, and headed to the third period tied at 3-3. Peguis scored the only goal of the 3rd period, and held on for a 4-3 win.The Juniors were led by Devon Garson, with a goal and 2 assists, while Tyler Woodhouse scored twice, including the game winner. Christian Cochrane added 2 assists in the game. Jarrod Smith recorded 21 saves on 24 shots to record the win.Talon Kelly scored a goal & added an assist for Arborg, while Jayde Barkman recorded 2 assists. Jon Narverud made 32 saves in the game, suffering the loss. Friday night saw the Fisher River Hawks open their 2014-15 campaign against close rival Peguis Juniors. The game did not go in Fisher River's favour as the Juniors simply overpowered them. Peguis tallied 5 times in the first period, 9 more times in the 2nd & added 4 more in the 3rd for an 18-0 romp. Full credit the to Hawks however , they worked hard all game, including holding the Juniors off the powerplay scoresheet.Peguis scorers were led by Darryl Flett, with 4 goals and 2 assists. Waylon Neault also added 4 goals, along with an assist. Joseph Sutherland, Devon Garson & Presley Kirkness each added 2 goals and 2 assists. Theoren Spence, Dennis Stevenson, Romano Paul, Denis Baptiste, Tyler McKay, Presley Beaulieau & Tyrell Armstrong all had multiple point games.Keifer Tacan made 30 saves to record the shutout win.While the Hawks didn't score any goals, Ryan Bruyere made 30 saves in the game on nearly 50 shots. St. Malo also continued their "road trip" to start the season and visited the Arborg Ice Dawgs. This was a hard fought, close game. Arborg jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first period. St. Malo answered with a goal in the second at the 10:41 mark, and then Arborg scored two more goals, 18 seconds apart, and held a 4-1 lead. St. Malo added another goal, and went to the dressing room after two periods down 4-2. The 3rd period saw the Warriors score at the 7:36 mark on the powerplay and then tie the game up with just 48 seconds to go. This went game needed extra time, and with just under 1 minute remaining in OT, the Warriors potted the winning goal to earn the victory.Bryden Johnson scored two goals for the Warriors, while Triston Eastman & Jeff Williams both tallied 2 assists. Jordan Taylor made 45 saves on 49 shots to earn the OT victory.Travis Kilbrei scored once and added an assist, while Cory Kuldys added 2 assists. Travis Schalk turned away 54 shots in the OT loss. Saturday night saw two unbeaten teams from this early season meet up as the OCN Storm rolled into Selkirk for a date with the Fishermen. The teams played a scoreless first period. OCN opened the scoring in the 2nd, only to have Selkirk answer back. OCN then added two more goals and held a 3-1 lead heading into the 3rd. Selkirk cut the lead to 3-2 early in the 3rd, but couldn't find the net any more, and OCN added an empty netter with 1 second remaining to grab the 4-2 win.The Storm were led by Lodie Ipeelie with a goal and an assist. Single goals came from Mitch Tilley, Tinoshi Mitzushima & Harold Linklater. Luke Penner made 32 saves in goal for the Storm recording the win.The Fish got 2 assists from Tanner MacVicar to lead the team, while Karl Fey & Cory Balcaen scored their goals. Bretton Fewchuk faced only 16 shots in the game, allowing 3 goals in the loss. Also Saturday, Arborg headed north for a weekend matchup vs Norway House. Arborg opened the scoring, and added two more in the first, while Norway House scored twice. The second period saw both teams trade goals 3 times, with Arborg scoring first in the period, and holding a 6-5 lead heading to the 3rd. In the third, it was all Norway House however, as they scored 3 times to complete the comeback and take the 8-6 win.The North Stars were led by Sam McKay & Braeden Boschman with 2 goals and an assist each. Gregory Paupanekis scored a goal and added an assist, and Cody Spence & Kenley Monias each tallied 2 assists. Brendan McLeod made 47 saves in the game recording the victory.Arborg was led by Colton Davies who recorded a hat trick, and Connor Jonasson with 3 assists. Kyle Barkman added a goal and an assist. Jon Narverud made 36 saves in the loss. Sunday featured the second game between Arborg and Norway House. Arborg again opened the scoring in this game, adding two more later in the period, while Norway House scored once. The second period saw Norway House answer with 3 goals, and hold a 4-3 lead heading the 3rd period. The 3rd period saw Arborg score twice, only to have Norway House tie the game back up, then Arborg tallied 3 more goals to take the game 8-5 and split the weekend series.Travis Kilbrei paced the Ice Dawgs with 3 goals and 2 assists. Cal Finnson & Cory Kuldys each added a goal and an assist. Travis Schalk recorded the win, making 41 saves on 46 shots.The North Stars got 2 goals from Kenley Monias, along with Glen Paupanekis, Braeden Boschman & Sam McKay each scoring a goal and adding an assist. Brendan McLeod faced 49 shots in the game, allowing 8 goals in the loss. The St. Malo Warriors looked to extend their winning streak as they visited the Lundar Falcons. The Warriors scored twice in the first, and surrendered a shorthanded marker to Lundar, to hold a 2-1 first period lead. The second period was all Warriors, as they added 4 goals to their total, and held a commanding 6-1 lead. Lundar cut the lead in half in the 3rd, with two goals, but couldn't muster any more, and the game ended 6-3 Warriors.St. Malo got a goal and assist from each of Jeff Williams, Bryden Johnson & Mike Boles. Jordan Taylor faced 54 shots and made 51 saves, recording the win.Braden Lussier scored two of Lundar's 3 goals to lead the Falcons. Randy Quick started the game, surrendering 4 Warrior goals and suffering the loss. Andrew Smith came on in relief and gave up 2 goals in the game. The final game of the week saw the OCN Storm look to stay unbeaten as they visited the Fisher River Hawks. This game was more favourable to Fisher River, who opened the scoring with their first 2 goals of the franchise, before giving up 1 to OCN. The second period saw OCN score 5 times in 11 minutes to take a 6-2 lead. The Hawks answered with 1 back and the 2nd closed out with OCN leading 6-3. The 3rd period saw Fisher River make this one close with 2 early goals. OCN scored one more goal, while Fisher River mustered a 6th, but couldn't find the tying goal. OCN held on for the 7-6 lead.The Storm got 2 goals from Tinoshi Mizushima, and both Drew Morin & Bryson Constant added 3 assists. Harold Linklater scored once and added a helper. Tory Monias made 30 saves on 36 shots to seal the victory.The Fisher River Hawks got 3 goals and an assist from Darryl Thaddeus. Brent Courchene added a goal and 2 assists, while Jared Thickfoot, Dylan Stevenson & Tharren Stagg each added 2 assists. Dakota Johnson made 30 saves on 37 shots in the loss. Upcoming KJHL action begins on Tuesday, as the North Winnipeg Satelites play host to the Fisher River Hawks. The week continues on Friday as the Arborg Ice Dawgs roll into Lundar. Saturday sees the Satelites visit the Peguis Juniors and the St. Malo Warriors head north for a weekend set vs the OCN Storm. Sunday sees the rubbermatch between St. Malo and OCN, while Arborg hosts Lundar in the second game of a home and home series.
